I don't think it was enough of an emergency and I don't think it made that much of a difference anyway.

No, the powers to be will continue to gouge the American public no matter where the oil comes from, domestic or foreign. It is apparent that our leaders, federal and state, have no intention to do anything that would impact their source of "pork" project funding, ( via fuel taxes that support welfare programs for illegals, and non-tax contributors). I still say that the I.R.S. should issue I.D. cards that identify American tax payers. And if you don't possess one you are permitted to receive soc. sec., food program assistance, etc..
This will sound very harsh, and truly will never happen. But America is in big trouble, and from which it can only recover if our leaders stop giving aid to foreign countries, and foreign individuals in our country. And start rendering aide to the American, tax paying, citizen.

No, it's an honest attempt to influence the markets and spur a small sell-off of oil futures to ease prices at the pump. However, investors are juggling too many factors right now to pay attention to such a small supply side shock, they only are looking at future consumption projections which are directly tied to the strength of the recovery.
The best thing to do to get gas prices fall is to just let the economy crash again which will counter all the inflation that's been driving prices up.
Oh wait, the DOW is down over 900 points over the last 2 weeks and Oil futures are trading under 85 bucks a barrel...Good job congress, we should see Gas prices fall under 3 bucks a gallon soon!!! This is a great strategy to make prices more attractive to drivers and spur more economic activity!!

Yes in a way. I think it gave some much needed relief to the general public, but it has done little more than that. It is still way to high for all the profit they are making off of it.

NO. OPEC simply reduced production for a while to keep oil prices high.

This was a dumb idea. The fact of the matter is it wasn't going to help lower prices and the US gave as much as every other country combined, as well as this fuel is used for military purposes not civilian so he only hurt us, of course the way the country is being run now he been doing that his whole term, but different topic.

It was a much needed wake-up call for corp-jet flying speculators. Left alone, these SOB were gonna push the price to $100 or more. Obama did the right thing, reminding them who's really in charge. Now if he just cut Eric Cantor down to size.

Not really, with the gas prices way out of control right now, releasing the fuel just gives them more power to up the price even more to " replenish the stock", so we will pay for it at the pump, with the way the economy is today. I forsee $5.00 a gallon gas very soon.

The release made very little sense. Oil is off of it's high and seems to have had little effect. The timing was quite odd to me.

"Next we probe how the gas/oil companies are making record profits at the expense of the US economy. "
Oil is sold on a WORLD market, even if the US oil companies sold at a discount to US markets, it would get re-sold on the world market at the market price for a profit for intermediate buyer. If wells were drilled when they were profitable with oil selling at $40/bbl, when the market goes to near $100/bbl. how do you NOT make money? NOW, it is the Obama administration ( and the lib green lobby) PREVENTING them from using that money to drill more wells. Drilling is the natural place for an oil company to invest, but that isn't being allowed in US domestic areas, so the oil companies are banking their money waiting for a change in domestic policy.

The release will have little effect on lasting prices, and I agree that it is insignificant in that we have so many untapped reserves.
The best reason in my book for supporting the release is to keep the speculators on edge as to when it might happen again.
Next we probe how the gas/oil companies are making record profits at the expense of the US economy.

Again, no. And the latest inventory report from the Energy Information Agency /pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/weekly_petroleum_status_report/current/pdf/table1.pdf as of last Friday shows that the 30Mil barrels hasn't been released yet. And it also shows a deficit of 34.9Mil barrels from a year ago, including 26.9Mil barrels of product(gasoline and Diesel). Now is there any wonder beyond the so-called speculation, why gas is still around $3.50 and diesel is around $4.00/gallon. Doesn't shock me and I fill up $40-60/day 5 days a week to ferry around office supplies and payrolls from around Port Columbus to the Mansfield area.

Sorry, that is on : /Retail_Price_Chart.aspx in Gas Buddy dot com.
and you can see a graph of fuel prices for 30 days , 90 days and other options. Then the effect of a particular action can be seen over time. That is in "Gas price Charts" in the white portion of the stripe near the top of the page. If you click that on YOUR page, I suspect it will graph the record in your area.
